You've got this! Follow these simple steps to get perfect measurements every time.
Product Specifications
Size range: 14" to 118" wide × 18" to 118" high
Control restrictions may apply to maximum sizes
What You'll Need
Required tools:
- Steel tape measure (most accurate)
- Notepad or phone for recording measurements
- Step ladder (if measuring high windows)
Before you begin:
- Clear the window area completely
- Check for obstructions (handles, locks, trim pieces)
- Have good lighting to see measurement marks clearly
⚠️ Important: Measure each window individually — even windows that look identical can vary by ¼" or more.
Step 1: Choose Your Mounting Style
Select the option that works best for your window and desired look:
Inside Mount ✅ Recommended for energy efficiency
Best for: Maximum insulation and clean, built-in appearance
Requirements:
- Minimum 2" depth from glass to front of window frame
- No obstructions that interfere with shade operation
- Square, even window frame
Benefits:
- Superior thermal performance
- Seamless, architectural look
- Better light control at top and bottom
Outside Mount
Best for: Maximum light blocking and visual impact
When to choose:
- Shallow windows (less than 2" depth)
- Uneven or damaged window frames
- Want to make windows appear larger
- Need complete light coverage around frame edges
Benefits:
- Covers entire window opening plus frame
- Hides window imperfections
- Maximum privacy and light control
Ceiling Mount
Best for: Modern windows or architectural openings without traditional frames
When to choose:
- No window frame present
- Contemporary architectural style
- Want dramatic ceiling-to-floor coverage
Step 2: Measure Width
Record measurements as: Width × Height (W × H)
Inside Mount Width
- Measure across the top of the window frame from inside edge to inside edge
- Measure again at the middle of the frame
- Measure once more at the bottom of the frame
- Record the narrowest measurement
We'll make the necessary deductions — just give us your exact frame measurements.
Outside Mount Width
- Measure the exact width you want the shade to cover
- Add 2-4" on each side (4-8" total) for optimal light blocking
- Record your final desired width
Your shade will be made exactly to this measurement.
Ceiling Mount Width
- Measure the window opening width
- Record your total desired coverage width
Step 3: Measure Height
All Mount Types
-
Decide where you want the shade to end:
- At the windowsill
- Below the sill
- At the floor
- Any point in between
-
Measure from top to your chosen end point
-
Add 2-4" extra length for flexibility and better light control
Pro tip: The extra length allows you to adjust coverage and ensures better energy efficiency.
Height Measuring Technique
- Measure in three places: left side, center, right side
- Use the longest measurement
- This accounts for uneven floors or frames
Step 4: Select Your Control Option
Available controls:
- Cordless lift: Clean look, child-safe operation
- Motorized: Ultimate convenience with remote or app control
For motorized shades: Choose which side you want the charging port located — pick the side that's most accessible at the top of your window.
Step 5: Record Your Final Measurements
Format: Always write Width × Height (W × H)
Width rounding rules:
- Inside mount: Round DOWN to nearest ⅛"
- Outside mount: Round UP to nearest ⅛"
- Never round to ½" or whole inches
Example: 36⅜" × 54¾"
